Singer Ingrid Andress Checks Into Rehab After ‘Worst National Anthem Performance Ever’

People are rallying on social media to support Ingrid Andress after she explained why her national anthem performance didn’t go as planned.

On Monday, July 15, the country singer performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Major League Baseball (MLB) Home Run Derby in Arlington, Texas. Her rendition, however, faced criticism online, with some calling it the “worst national anthem in like… years.”

In response, Andress revealed the circumstances leading up to her performance, prompting a wave of support from fans and followers who are reminding others to be kind and considerate.

Shortly after Andress began singing at Globe Life Field, social media users quickly pointed out that her performance sounded off-key. Many expressed confusion, as this was uncharacteristic for the talented star, while some harshly criticized her.

Andress took to X to apologize and explain what happened. In a post uploaded on July 16, she admitted, “I was drunk last night,” and shared that she is checking herself into a facility to get the help she needs. “That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let y’all know how rehab is—I hear it’s super fun.”

Support poured in quickly. One user wrote, “It takes a lot of backbone to own it. Good luck in recovery.” Another added, “Big respect for this post. Get better soon. You’ll be back.” A third commented, “You can do it! One day at a time.” A fourth offered, “Wishing you all the best.”

According to Variety, Andress also sent a letter to her email mailing list with a preview of her upcoming single “Colorado 9.” In the letter, Andress shared that she had to part ways with some people who helped her make a name for herself, which led her into what she called “depression.” She admitted, “I was at the lowest point I’ve ever been,” and decided to return to her hometown in Colorado for solace.
