In yet more good news for the Trump Campaign as it heads into the final weeks of the 2024 election, former President Donald Trump appears to have managed to flip yet another battleground state to him, a huge change from the 2016 and 2020 elections in terms of pre-election polling that shows he is managing to break into the so-called Blue Wall, in addition to edging out Kamala in states like Nevada.
The poll showing as much comes from Quinnipiac University, which conducted a poll to review its September 18 poll that had showed former President Trump was losing to the Vice President and 2024 Democratic candidate for president. Now, however, Trump is up by multiple points in the Quinnipiac poll.
In fact, according to the poll, former President Trump is now receiving 48 percent of the poll in the state of Wisconsin, with VP Harris managing to garner only 46 percent of the vote, a major change not just for her but for Democrats generally in the longtime Democrat region and state, particularly given its strong union presence.
Tim Malloy, a polling analyst at Quinnipiac University, commented on the situation and what it shows about the change in past Democrat support in the region, saying, “That was then, this is now. The Harris post-debate starburst dims to a glow as Harris enters the last weeks slipping slightly in the Rust Belt.”
Continuing, Malloy said, commenting on Michigan and Pennsylvania as well as Wisconsin, “Three critical states take the measure of two candidates on the values that define who they are and how they align with voters. In a telling sign, the answers reflect the overall race with voters in Pennsylvania giving Harris the upper hand while voters are split in Michigan and Wisconsin.”
Further, Malloy also said that Trump’s stance on foreign policy is helping him in the Rust Belt, saying, “The widening threat of a war encompassing the Middle East elbows its way into the long list of issues both candidates would confront the day they are sworn in, with Trump ahead on this issue in Wisconsin and Michigan.”In addition to the topline result, the Quinnipiac poll, which polled 1,073 likely voters in the state, found that of those surveyed, 95.4 percent of those Republicans polled are supporting Trump, and 98.2 percent of those Democrats polled are for Harris. And, in good news for the former president, Independents favor Trump by a multi-point margin, with 47 percent of those polled going to former President Donald Trump and 43 percent supporting Vice President Harris.
Quinnipiac isn’t the only poll showing that the former president is ahead in Wisconsin. Additionally, new data from Rasmussen Reports and American Thinks showed that the former president is currently ahead of Vice President Harris by 49% to 47% among likely voters in Wisconsin, a change from Biden winning the state in 2020.
Together, the collection of new polls in the former president’s favor means that RealClearPolitics (RCP) has updated its poll tracker, giving him, currently, a very slight 0.1 percentage point advantage in Wisconsin. Funnily enough, Kamala’s lead in the state evaporated just after she visited it for campaign events.
